Default Rear Brakes

Hi All
Just wanted to keep you all informed on some NEW info I was just told
when we dropped Lynn's 2010 TG off for her 5k service (1st 2 services
are free). I noticed a few weeks ago while cleaning her rear mags that
both rear rotors had little gouge marks in them. I thought this was quite
strange with such low mileage. I thought she picked up some road debris
between the pads & rotors. So when we brought it in I was just about
to ask the service manager about putting 2011 brake pads on because of
their larger foot print. But he already bent down to look at the rotors
(he didn't say why). When he stood up he turn to tell me that they had
a visit from the regional service guy and he told our service manager that
the 2010's (now I do not know if he meant all) had some problems with
gouging and I think he said the rotors metal was too soft or maybe it
was the pads that were soft and crumbled and scored the rotors. Either
way he said BOTH rotors & brakes where going to be REPLACED under
warranty as soon as the parts came in !
Also heard in conversation .....
HD trike to be 110 motor & water cooled !
Does seam funny Leman is not making new trikes so it cannot be leaked out.
Get it ... LEAKED OUT ;-)
Just saying ..... We will know 1 year from now ....
Rob .....

Wonder if that go's for the 2009 Tri's? My rear brake rotors have groves in them too.

I would HOPE they are going to use '11 parts.
I just looked at both my rear rotors. Found two light radial scores on the left side. The right side showed normal wear for 6000 miles. I guess I'm going to wait for a while before thinking about a Lyndall pad replacement. It would be nice for a recall---won't hold my breath!

Water cooled trike in '12? I would certainly NOT buy a first model year for that one!

+1 on the first model year. But on the other hand the second year could be worse. 2009 vs 2010.

Interesting, will have to look closer at my break rotors which have 7,000 miles on them.

My 09 TG and 10XXX have groves on the rear rotors. Which I thought was not normal. But accepted as being the nature of the BEAST. Till the the change on the 2011 rear break pads with larger foot print. And the harder rear rotors. Thanks Harley it took you two years and a new model year 2011 to make it right. Now i'll see if my selling Dealer will make it right. The break dust from the stock pads is a killer what a mess it makes. I wipe the wheels and fenders down with a swifer duster after each ride it's a pain. Hope the upgraded pads don't make as much dust.

Took a better look today with parking brake off. (BTW, my parking brake is now slipping and only seems to grab right rotor!)
The outside pads on both rotors wobble. Meaning, they do not ride the rotors. I always thought disk pads made contact with the rotors--no adjustment needed? I still have firm rear brake pedal.

Sounds like it needs adjusted, mine doesn't work at all and I like it that way. As the brake pads wear the parking brake needs adjusted to compensate for it. Unlike a car the Triglide uses the rear brakes as the parking break also.

These things have a parking brake? I need to start reading the owners manual.

I thought that was the passenger ejection seat lever, been threatening to pull it when she starts ragging on me over the money I've spent on this dog!

Yea, I tried that adjustment thing with the PB handle but it didn't do much. The real adjustment means pulling the rear wheels and getting at the calipers. As soon as I saw that "pulling the rear wheels", I thought, fugetaboudit!! For now, I will keep it in gear when I stop.

What really bothers me is that slop in the rear pads!
