Negative rumors about synthetic oil has abounded since Amsoil and then Mobil started making the stuff in the 70s. Most of them started by ignorant folks or people too cheap to pay for the extra protection. For what the dealers charge for the Harley stuff, you can go to Wallyworld and get Mobil's V-Twin or Amsoil at just about any independent shop.

I would LOVE to find Mobil1 V-Twin 20-50W @Wallyworld! They used to carry it in my area but no longer. Same with auto parts chain "Advance Auto". Now I have to go mail order over the web! Don't think I would feel comfortable using the Mobil1 20-50W if it wasn't for V-Twin.

Amsoil will sell to you direct at wholesale prices. Check out their web site and look for preferred customer link. costs $10 for 6 mo/$20 yr. Save 20-25% off list.

Trying to decide which way to go on 1000 mile check up..Mobil 1 vtwin ---why would you have to wait until your warranty is up to add this type? My dealer is pushing the HD syn 3 for all three holes. Harley ownes this brand so I can see him doing that ..But I see alot of people using it in all three holes..Just confused as alot of people want to run or not run....

Default High Heat Oil

I used Amsoil after the first 1000 miles only because I had a case in the garage I bought for the 03 Standard Glide. I will go with the Mobile 1 after I run out of Amsoil.

Mobile has a little higher flash point, not much but these crate's are hot!

I can't even see using Dino oil in engines that run this hot!

Don't let them put Syn3 in the trans. I quit using Syn3 in all 3 holes years ago after I drained the trans while hot and saw the Syn3 come out like water and lot of metal fuzzies on the magnet of the drain plug on my 06 Ultra. I switched to Redline Shock Proof heavy and never had another clump of metal fuzzies on a drain plug magnet again. Right now I'm running Syn3 in the engine, Formula + in the primary and Redline Shock Proof in the trans. The only reason I'm running the Syn3 is because I had a case on the shelf. I'm only running the Syn3 in the Triglide. I run Mobile 1 15w-50 in my 06 Ultra along with Formula + in the primary and Redline Shock Proof in the trans. I run the Formula + because its cheaper than runing a good synthetic in the primary when all your doing is lubing a chain and the clutch plates.
