Default 2010 Triglide trunk lid and clicking noise at 2000 rpm

I have had all the same problems as posted in your forum Just joined this week. I don't know it it's been resolved yet but my fix for the trunk lid falling open was to lubricate the push button. Also make sure it returns to it's full out position each time I open the lid by pulling back the button with the key still in it. If the button doesn't return usually only one side latches...

My dealer claims that the noises in the engine are normal for a 2 cyl air cooled engine. Sounds like a lifter or ping...Goes away at 2500 rpm.

Welcome aboard. At times their can be more mechanical noises with a V-twin vs some metric bike engines. If the ping your hearing happens when you twist the throttle it could be spark knock which isn't normal. One of the causes can be poor fuel quality or being in the wrong gear for the conditions.

As M3 said you can be lugging the engine and it is easier to do with the 2010, gear is to tall. We had to go to the 30T primary pulley, mine feels tighter and sounds tighter, don't ask me how it quieted down the lifter rattle but it just seems tighter and more responsive now working up through the gears from a stand still.

Rented a Tri Glide from Orlando Harley to see if I wanted to own one. Rode it for 8.1 miles and had them come and get it. Tri Glide would not start immediately after parking apparently due to fuel pump vapor lock, 99 degrees out that day, fuel pump icon would not go out. While riding from Harley on highway 545 to where we were staying, out of no where it dove to the left into the uncomming traffic lane, fortunately for me there was no uncomming traffic. First thought was a flat rear left, not the case. There was a thumping sound which may have been caused by a trunk door that had popped open, wrong location, sound came from the rear left. Orlando Harley claims the dive to the left was caused by riding the tri glide with the parking brake on, not so. Bike ran like a bolt of lightning. Seems like brake would have dragged it down.

Q: Does the brake cable operate both calipers or only one side because of solid axle?
Q: Would left hand dive more likely be caused by defective left rear suspension component?

TY, Dan.

Sounds like there were some issues with the rental you had. The parking brake has to cables which apply both rear brakes. I can tell you from experience you can take off with the parking brake on and never notice it. The pulling to the left may have been from the parking brake being applied, it is possible to have one caliper applied heavier than the other if the adjustment isn't right.

Figured this should be captured in the Triglide issues Sticky. I have been witness to 3 failures of the start button and harness assembly on both a 2009 and a 2010 Triglide Ultra. The 2009 which is my dads failed when it was less than a year old and then failed again a little more than 2 years later. My 2010 just failed today, it is 1 year and 11 months old. What happens is when the switch fails the starter will not stop running when you let your finger off the start button. On some occasions it will start right up when you turn the ignition switch on and turn on the kill switch. For those who always leave the kill switch on it will start when the ignition is turned on, and it won't care if its in gear and the clutch isn't pulled in. I just trailers mine to the dealers so it can be repaired.

I am most curious about any trike suddenly pulling to the left while driving down the road. This is the second time I have heard this. Why would anyone apply the parking brake while riding? What else other than running over something, flat tire, loss of a wheel, etc. would cause this? Anyone?

I've seen it happen but only 1 time. Nothing loose or engaged by accident.

While in a PGR procession a tractor trailer coming down an ON ramp didn't yield to a 100 + bike line. He broke the line apart. The line was over 1/2 mile long so it's wasn't like he didn't see it then another tractor trailer on his tail did the same thing. Many bikes had to scatter.

There was a Goldwing Trike in front of me. When he hit the brakes the trike suddenly darted hard to the left crossing two left lanes full of traffic and ended up in the grass medium.

The chase cars blocked the highway and made sure the Triker was OK. He gathered himself and caught up. I did look at the Goldwing and it had rear disc brakes, it wasn't a Motor Trike with drum rear brakes that can grab to one side if you hit them hard.

Rider said later that it was a combination of him hitting the brakes and abnormalities in the pavement that sent him shooting left.

Everyone was OK... Shaken but not stirred. The truck drivers got a finger salute by some 50 or 60 bikers before lead Hwy Patrol officer directed them to the shoulder and gave them a special award for stupidity.

I got nothing against truck drivers and have seen some really stupid stuff from cagers too but there was no excuse for these guys, day time, full line of site and police escort.

Hey all. Just picked up an 09 Tri Glide and am still in the honeymoon phase so I like it a lot! I plan to be around here often, learning from you more experienced riders. The one thing I agree with, that's been said numerous times on this board is; that Trike runs/rides HOT! While I should expect a bit of sweat, being in Central Texas and having triple digit heat almost daily for the past couple months...the top end gets as close to "forgetaboutit hot" as it can. Won't stop me from riding though!
