Do the trunks on newer trikes reliably keep your luggage dry?

The trunk door on my '18 came unlatched once.
A little adjustment took care of the problem.

When I ran the wiring for my extra Kuryakyn vertical lights I considered using some sealer around the wire but I thought that I'd do it later if required but it hasn't leaked a drop anywhere that I have noticed and I've been through a few "gulley-washer" thunderstorms where I had to dump out my boots but both the trunk not the tour pack as ever leaked.

Good, this puts to bed one of my concerns!

Don`t slam the rear trunk door closed like some yo-yo`s have posted on the internet.

Push it closed and listen and feel for the latch.

Keep the latch mechanism lubricated.

`22 Tri Glide, Tour Pack and Trunk watertight.

Yes, I agree! I've seen people abuse car doors and pickup truck tailgates. Also, where I live, we get VERY strong winds (up to 75 kph = 47 mph) off the Rocky Mountains all the time. So, the locals taught us when we moved here to always park your car FACING into the wind, so that when you open the door, the wind won't rip it open and bend the hinges!

2018 Tri with 150,000km. Totally dry trunk and tourpak. Lock replaced at 1000km by HD and no problem with it since. I have a metal bracket attached to the body that serves as a safety measure allowing the trunk to open only 2" if it pops open.

Wow, you've put on some (dry) miles!

I love your idea of labeling individual roll bags. I'll need to remember to buy bags of a color that show black marker labeling easily under poor lighting conditions!

And yes, I am amazed at the total luggage capacity of the trike models, both the TriGlide and the smaller capacity of the Road Glide 3. The Road Glide 3 still has at least 3 times the luggae capacity I need for my type of motorcycle long distance tour.

Glad you found them interesting/useful.

Yes, I was amazed also. That video was the first time I had ridden in snow. Since then have ridden many more times in that type of snow conditions, always be surprisingly stable.

I have also ridden when the snow had been like that, then the temp dropped, and that slush froze. Then, even if it snowed more, there was that ice below. I will not ride on that stuff....like being on an ice skating rink, very little control, and what little there is, is only at low speed. There are quite a few videos of riding in that stuff on our channel, and I'll post one of them below.

Yes, stuff sacks, of different sizes, really help get the most out of the luggage space, and make it so you only have to pull out what you need.

Enjoy Your Ride!

Kevin

While riding in the rain on my 2023 Triglide, the trunk stays dry. When washing I get a little water in the trunk. It was leaking before I did the tourpack relocation, so I used silicone sealant on the bolts. I think it is getting in around the trunk door seal. I have adjusted the latch with no improvement, so I will try replacing the seal myself. Still on warranty, but I don’t really like the dealership working on my bike.

On my 14 I rode from Watkins Glen to Mt Airy NC in the rain and the only thing that was wet was my hands

Hey Kevin, how well do ABS and traction control work on GRAVEL or dirt? I have studiously avoided gravel and ort roads on my 2-wheeler, but would they be significantly safer on a trike?
