Default Info for DIY Coolflow fan installers

Just installed the coolflow fan on my RG3. Here are some
recommendations I have for you DIYs.
NOTE: the instructions say to install the Mid-frame
deflector (if you have one) before starting install
of fan, DON'T (my humble opinion)

After spending almost 15-20 min. to get first screw positioned
from inside battery tray, I figured out either my hands were too
big or the space was too small. At 69 years old bending over
in all sorts of contortions my back begins to show its age.

I was using a 4 1/4 inch 5/32 allen wrench (minimum length
needed) to try and position first screw in the hole. After
dropping the (screw-lock washer-round washer) for the third time,
I could not find the screw and went to my tool box and got my
magnetic pickup tool to find/grab the screw.
Then I realized, sh#t, I can just place the screw-etc.
on to the end of the magnetic tool and guide the screw-etc.
into place. This I did, grabing the threads from outside, holding
steady, removing magnetic tool and inserting allen wrench into screw head.
Then placing the fan into position (w/o the mid-frame deflector in the way)
I started the first screw. Then repeated with second screw. With
both screws holding fan in place I installed the mid-frame deflector using
the top bolt only. Rotated deflector into place at bottom and tighted
its top bolt.
Tighted both fan screws down (which helps hold in place the deflector on
the bottom)

You will need at least a 4 1/4 in. minimum 5/32 allen wrench. I would recommend
longer if you can find one. I also strongly recommend a magnetic pickup
tool (costs $3 - $10) to use to place screws-etc. into place.

Thanks for the info. Our generation has been given the tools,( our brains ), to make it work. I have a large assortment of different magnetic tools that are truly useful for both work and DIY. 👍

Thanks for the detailed description of your process! Somehow sounds better when you tell it.
Did you wire the fan to the dash console with the Auto/Off/On switch operates?

Cheers.

I will be adding the Auto/Off/On fan button to the console switches. I ordered a new speedometer/tach
combo last week from my local HD. As soon as it comes in I will install both at the same time.
The wiring harness for the fan was straight forward and tucked up out of the way without any problems.

I've had my flexible. reach "claw, magnet and mirror" tools for decades and when you need the you really appreciate them!
IF. I continue to "tinker" in the garage I WILL get one of those "flexible cameras" too!

Forty+ years ago I was installing a new battery in my '76 Super-Glide and lost one of the cable nuts down into the "abyss" and could not locate it!
I used a penlight but could not see it.
I used compressed air and could not blow it out.
I tried a water hose and could not flush it out.
I gave up and used another nut.

A few days later I was driving down the street when I heard what sounded like a "loose nut" hit my chain and thrown hardly against the inner side of my rear fender but I didn't see the nut exit from my bike....just the loose nut that was riding it!

Got my new speedo/tach combo installed and the fan button in the console. Easy to do.
Pressing the fan button does nothing now... will be taking it in to local HD Wednesday to get
the software flash for the fan.

Got coolflow fan flashed this morning at HD dealer.
Also asked again if software was available yet for "Apple Carplay" for 2024s.
Have been asking since I bought my 2024 RG3 in December....
They checked, it was available.. and now have it on my bike..cool.
Coolflow fan software worked good too..fan went on at stoplight on way home.
Near the house I stopped to get gas... reset Trip A but Trip B would not reset. On way home noticed Trip B was
going in reverse... counting backwards... WTF.
Search and found the new Speedo/Tach combo I bought takes about 31 miles for ECM - new combo to "sync" and
the Trip B counting backwards was normal...whooooo.. Every things good.

Same thing happened when they warrantied the speedometer on my Heritage and thought the same. Called the dealer when I got home and they said the same as you posted. Worked great ever since.
