Default Bought a 2012 TriGlide today-need tire advice

Bought Mama a 2012 TriGlide. She's a beauty but the tires are original. DOT date of 0612. What are you recommendations for tires? How much is this going to set me back? Thanks in advance.

Replace them!
I wouldn't trust any tire over 6 years old, especially if it (they) are on a bike that is ridden on long trips at highway speeds.
I've experienced two "rapid deflation" of tires (one front, one rear) and dumped the bike (with my wife) when the rear tire went flat!
No serious injuries but if could have been much worse if I had been on a major street or highway at a higher speed.

The rear tires will give you far more mileage than the front but at that age they all need to be replaced.
A blowout, even on a three wheeler is something that may not be survival and for the cost of new tires it's a wise investment.

You may want to look at the Avon tire that is designed for the Tri-Glide as they supposedly give greater mile over the Dunlop.

on my 2012: I put Michelin Pilots on the rear, and the Avon Cobra Trike in the front. Great improvement over the OEMs.

Guess I should replace tires on my 2015 this year even though it only has just under 8,000 miles. I've had it since October 2014. I did replace the tires on my 2013 Sportster in 2020 with only 6,000 miles. Tires looked great but I like peace of mind.

I’m following this thread as I’m curious as to what some are putting on the rear.
I already suspect on the front I’ll go with Dunlop American Elite.

As for whether or not to replace them?
As a 10 year old tire I certainly would recommend it.

However there’s a lot of variables that need to be considered when factoring in a tire‘s lifespan.
I believe most tire manufacturers warranty tires for six years but if I’m not mistaken most have a recommended replacement of no later than 10 years.

My 2016 freewheeler has the original tires on it.
It’s got less than 6000 miles on it and has always been garaged in a relatively climate stable environment.

I suppose if I was taking it on a long-distance rides I would consider replacing the tires.
However given their current condition and the fact that we don’t travel on long rides with the bike I won’t be changing them out likely until they are probably 10 years old.

I would put the Avon Cobra trike specific on the front, Better handling and longer wear than the original Dunlop. I put Goodyear tires on the rear of my 2016 when I replaced them

The trike only has 1300 miles on it. It was always garage kept. I'll replace all the tires. Should I let Harley do it or an alternative (do it myself, use local motorcycle shops)? How much would Harley charge?

Tri Glide rear wheels are automotive-spec so I would take them to your local tire shop, for replacement. My local Discount Tire mounted my Michelin Pilot Sport rears.

I have the Avon trike tire on the front of my 15 TG. I picked it up online and had a local indy mount it. Turns out I could have bought it from him and paid less. I'll probably do the rears this year, but it has been kept inside and the tires are still in very good shape.

Congrats on the new ride!

I would go with the Comfortred Tires from Goodyear. They ride nicer than the OEM tires, last just as long, handle and have just as good traction. They just ride a little plusher. On the front Avon, or a rear tire reversed will give longer life and better traction in the turns and when stopping.

Here's a video you may find interesting/useful-
