That is up to you to decide if you are talented enough to understand how to work on mechanical things ! LOL !!

The schedules for service is available to you if you can figure out how to use them.

By the way the warranty can't be voided just because you do your own services. But you must keep accurate logs on anything you do for your services. Also keep track of your purchases for your oil and filters and anything else bought to do your services. Then they would have to prove you didn't service correctly.
The service schedules you can download from Harley is set up so you can check off everything as you do the service and also make notes of any problems you found.

I had a service credit from the factory and decided to take it to my local dealer for the 1K service. Normally, I would do it myself. It cost $630 for my Road Glide ST with Synthetic fluids. They charged 3 hours labor. SMH. It was their way of telling me, they don’t want any more business from me. At least, that’s the way I took it. I’ll never go back for services. Going back to the garage.

 

That's disgraceful. $630. I know a year ago my local Dealership changed hands,
immediately they took the normal Harley Service sign down, the one with service prices.
Next thing you know, they eliminated the Free Annual Inspection if purchased there, right
after I purchased.
Nickle and Dimes, that's what destroys a company, Nickles and Dimes.

 

That must be normal. I had mine done last week, $545. and some change; that included m Mil discount. Will do any others myself.

 

Judging from the posts on this and other forums about screwed up drain plug threads, inability to figure out how much oil to put in the engine, transmission, and primary, inability to properly adjust a clutch and cable, I have to say this is not always the case.

Just because someone does it himself does not mean it is done right.

Not everyone is a mechanical person, no shame in that whatsoever.

Some should leave the maintenance to a shop.

Those that can perform the service should keep a copy of all receipts for lube and filters, I even keep a copy of the service checklist, I sign off each step as I go, (my aircraft mechanic experience has made me **** about documentation).

 

I agree with Dan89FLSTC I have been an Aircraft Maintenance Person in the AirForce and am FAA Airframe and Powerplant mechanic since 1970. I did all my maintenance on my FLHTK's, have the maintenance manuals and inspection sheets. I do believe the 1K should be accomplished by the dealer, it's their responsibility to make ready and if adjustments are needed do them.

 

The cost of a 1K varies from dealer to dealer. I'm getting close to getting this one on my 2023 Highway King (Road King). There are 3 dealers within 25 miles of me. Dealer A where I bought it $458, Dealer B $408, Dealer C $362 for the same service...Shop around.

 

One would think that for the price we pay for these things, they COULD throw in the first service for free. Wait..... what am I saying? Harley, free?

 

Seriously, why should anyone think that?

Just because something is expensive does not mean the company that sold it to you owes you something for free, and besides that, when a company tells you they are throwing in something for free, don`t believe it, nothing is free.
