Custom Tri Glide/Freewheeler wheels
#21
Oh well, time to just try to keep my oem wheels clean best I can till I really need to do something about them.
thanks for all the input and help! It’ll come in handy down the road.
Time to turn my attention to my handlebars which is a more “ pressing” issue. ( sorry for the lame joke)

This is something I have posted on other forums or group pages:
Oem TG and FW rear wheel specs are as follows: 15x5.5 diameter & width, 4x108 bolt pattern, and –9 offset. That last number is especially important, as offset is critical for proper fit. Harley intentionally used an oddball wheel, to keep people from purchasing readily available automotive units. That only deters lazy people, as some of us know how to get around that, easily. Any custom aftermarket rear wheel you can get in the following specs will fit any Tri Glide or Freewheeler. The oem 5.5” width is an oddball and really too narrow for the oem 205 rear tire. My suggestion is to go with either a 6” rear width, with –6 offset (3.25” backspace), or a 7” width with –12 offset. (3.5” backspace). Offsets are measured in millimeters and backspace in inches. – denotes a negative offset and + denotes a positive offset. Positive offsets will not fit a TG or FW. The reason I posted both offsets and backspace required is that wheel makers will publish one or the other, not always both. However, the odds of finding an off-the-shelf wheel that will fit, is probably slim & none. Custom-ordering wheels with the correct specs is not hard, though.
If you have any questions, you can either email me or call me on my cell.
