Why 3 wheels?

Why 3 wheels?
I'm genuinely curious. I saw a lot of Tri's on the road over the summer and have wondered what is it that makes someone go from 2 wheels to 3 ?
And maybe they didn't even start with 2 wheels! Maybe it's always been 3 ?
I thought I could post in here and have ya'll share your thoughts?
Much appreciated. Ride Safe!

Speaking only for myself. My Wife has MS and was uncomfortable on the curves. She has ridden behind me for over 30 years on 2 wheels and loves it. For her to keep riding we went to a trike. I was reluctant to change. Now that we have ridden a trike for a few years having so much fun would not go back to 2 wheels. Added bonus wife wants to ride more often and it keeps the smile on her face.

For us, it's similar to above, I'm fine on two wheels, but the wife has arthritis in both knees and has trouble getting on and off the bike. We're both in our middle 60's and for me to hold the two wheel steady for her to crawl on is a chore, with the trike I can stand back and she can take her sweet time getting on or off. Works for us. Would I like a two wheel bike again? sure...and maybe I'll get one to add to the garage....but for us it's a trike.
And I'd rather have her with me than have two wheels....it's fun and that's all that matters.
I've ridden in all lower 48 states so I've nothing left to prove to myself or anyone else....

Well, my story: I wanted to get back in the wind so to speak after being caged for 30 years due to family, no time and no money for such.
Things change after 30 years. I am not as strong as I was and I occasionally have knee and hip flareups. So my options are a trike or a Miata convertible.
