Hi Guys,
I took a ride to my dealer today. He looked at my front tire and said that I should change it...I can hydroplane in the rain....
I said I have only 7800 miles on it...he said that the front tire should be changed at approx. 8000 miles....
Is this correct????
Thanks in advance...

14K on the first one so far, and it still looks pretty good, like 3/32". I was going to have it changed anyway before a 2.5K mile New England trip, but the wife just had a triple bypass Tuesday, so that's out. I think I'll just finish the season off with it and get a new one next year now. Oh, and she's doing very well, they're thinking of sending her home tomorrow. She may be ready, me, I'm not so sure about...

On my 2013 my first tire was changed at 17,500 and still had life it was above the recommended but the dealer had a sale and free mount and balance, so I changed it for same tire. The second front has over 17,000 now and still has about 1/4 life left. I ride hard, with lots of curves at higher speed. I find it hard to believe one would go through a tire in 8,000 miles. Take the tread depth yourself and check it. May be a dealer is just hungry.

I have 3/32 left down the center at 7600 miles. always proper pressure, mostly curvey roads and summer ridden on pavement roads. please post pixs of center tire thread on all those that state they have over 15k on their stock OEM Dunlop front tire.

Oogie Wa Wa, Sorry to hear about your wife's major surgery. That is a big ordeal to have gone through but I am glad that she is recovering well enough to be able to go home. Hospitals are not really safe places. Nice homes are. Much good luck in helping her with her rehab and subsequent recovery.
I'm sure that the kind of road surfaces you ride regularly has a lot to do with tire wear, too. Tar and chip back roads with curves are hard on them. But I'd still think 10 or 11K would be a minimum expected life.

I have 15,000 on mine and they have more than 50% tread left. I haven't experienced hydro planing with a single front tire in 60 years of riding. A slight problem on packed snow though especially with the linked front brake.
I run Dunlop tires 2 psi over spec. Over the years I found that it reduces cupping and promotes more even were. If I remember I will take a pic tomorrow.
