Default 3 Wheels to 2 Wheels

Yesterday was a beautiful day for a ride! Right at 80 degrees and brilliant sunshine (a little bit of a sunburn to prove it) We ride year round here in southeastern NC....a real plus not having to put the trike away for the winter.

I have been riding the trike for about 3 years now....during which time I have had both knees replaced and a hip replaced....so all is working, feeling good, and time to get back on 2 wheels. I've been kind of mentioning, and dreaming, that I would love to have my old bike back.

My buddy has a real nice 2009 Softail Deluxe, and knowing me, he offered to let me take a short test drive. We made the plan to ride around a empty church parking lot, to get a feel for each other's bikes, and then off for a short ride to the next stop a few miles down the road. He kept going and going and going....about 40 miles, I was back on 2 wheels!! It was a nice ride, with most of the time me trying to remember to put my feet down at stops, and leaning into curves. Man, was I rusty! Anyone else go from 3 to 2 ?? I hoping he wants to ride again today....I need some more practice!

My wife's on 3 wheels and I was on 2 before I had knee surgery and had to stay off the bike for a year, so she would let me ride hers fairly often. When I got back on 2 wheels, it was like riding a bicycle (pun intended).

I almost forgot to put my feet down once, but caught myself with plenty of time, and then never again. For me, the hardest part was trusting the lean. At first I would go through turns pretty slow, thinking about the lean angle and the speed. It took about a month before I could do it instinctively again.

Now I go back and forth between the bike and the trike without even thinking about it.

I ride on both 2 wheels and 3 wheels every week, sometimes both in the same day.

They each have their Pros and Cons. I am fortunate to have both.

If I go too long on either, I definitely get a hankering to ride the other.

I also go back and forth between 2 and 3 wheels, never an issue. The only problem I had was some years ago when I forgot I was on 2 wheels and didn't put the kick stand down before getting off the bike. That was the very 1st time I ever dropped a bike and I was pissed.

I think I may have been a little nervous, couldn't help thinking about dropping my buddy's bike. After 3 years on a trike, the steering of his bike with mini apes, seemed too effortlessly....I made a couple of turns way too sharp. I'm looking for a used fatboy for my second bike.
