Default Trike Trailer

I am considering buying a nice very slightly used 2014 Tri-Glide. I am in Illinois(Chicagoland) and the bike is in the Houston Texas area. I don't really want to drive it all the way back so am trying to find a trailer that I can rent or borrow to get the bike back up north . Does anyone have any leads on where I can go to get a trailer to bring this new toy home? Thanks

There is a recent thread on here where folks suggested U-haul. They have an open trailer set up for hauling bikes. I think the larger one can haul a trike. You might check them out.

Another option is to buy a used trailer and then re-sell it after hauling the trike.

The trailer has to have a ramp that isn't steep, too steep of a ramp will allow the muffler tips to drag. A couple years ago while stranded 1,400 miles from home when my dad's 09 Triglide broke. When the local Harley dealer came to pick up the trike, they had a trailer with a steep ramp, they never hauled a Triglide before. Lucky for us the dealer was only 1 mile from the Hotel, I pushed my dads Triglide to the dealer because it wasn't making it onto that trailer.

The U-Haul trailer your referring to won't work with trikes because the opening in the back needs to be at least 5 feet wide.

If you've got a steep ramp on a trailer where your trike mufflers drag on the back when you start up it, or it hits bottom at the top of the ramp (happens a lot), you can try extending the ramp. Usually you can raise the bottom of the ramp with a couple of 4x4 blocks, and lay a couple of 4' 2x8s leading onto it. Oops, make that three 2x8s!

Buy me and my wife a airline ticket back to Houston and we'll ride it from Houston to Chicago for you.

If the ramp on the trailer is too steep, try backing the trailer up to a hillside and then letting the ramp down. If you find the right hill, you should decrease your approach angle by quite a bit. I do it quite often on my back lawn. No muffler scrape at all.

You can also drive the rear wheels of the pulling vehicle up onto some 2x6s and that will decrease the angle of the ramps.
