Cool Zumo 660LM GPS power cord

Has anyone used the cigarette lighter plug to power their Zumo GPS for any length of time? I don't want to have to hard wire the unit to keep it portable from trike to car. Manual says plug will over heat and damage lighter

"Hardwire" just means you feed a 12v wire, from your motorcycle battery or accessory wire, to the GPS unit, with a 5v transformer in the circuit somewhere. I use a removable Garmin Nuvi 50 GPS, which I mount to either one of my motorcycle handlebars, or my SUV. In either case, it plugs into a type "B" Mini USB connector.

My SUV is powered by a 12v cigarette plug: http://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/shop-...rod112879.html

My motorcycles are all "hardwired" from the accessory fuse: http://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/shop-...prod87417.html

I've NEVER had ANY (over) heat-related problems.

Is that the answer you were looking for?

I had a Zumo 665 on my '08 Ultra and used the cigarette lighter plug to power it. I used it that way on many long (multi-day) trips. The only issue I had was occasionally the plug would wiggle loose due to vibrations. I am not sure how much current draw there is on a Zumo but I would think it is less than 1 amp.

Thanks Guys it' always good to have several responses to these types of questions when you have multiple choices that could possibly harm the equipment or the bike. I will probably hard wire it once I find the proper way to wire it to the accessory switch. Shouldn't be too hard since there are only pus and ground wire. Thanks again!

You don't say which year your Tri-Glide is, but my 2015 Freewheeler's wiring is similar to a 2014 < Tri-Glide. I found this Harley-Davidson wiring harness helpful (make sure it fits your year before buying.)
