Pros and Cons of a Freewheeler

Blew my hip out last year. Had to do the switch because of it. At first I was pretty heart broken about getting rid of the beloved dyna . It was paid off for one.... now I am just happy to be in the wind and am riding the freewheeler more than I did the dyna . I have to use a cane to walk now but have no trouble with the trike. In fact riding it helps me stretch the hip out and being in the wind lets me forget about the pain for awhile. Might have to get creative with how you get off and on the bike . I either just step up on the back boards and swing leg slowly around and slide forward , or just climb up on passenger seat and lift leg over the tank . Works for me. Good luck with what ever you do. I hated the trike for about the first 100 miles because it was so new and different from what I was used to. Now that I have figured it out I can ride it just as easily and sometimes better than my last dyna. I love it now and am very happy I made the switch.

78 years old. 4 right hips replaced. Both knees replaced. Get back injected every 4 months 3 hernias repaired. And a gawd awful bunch of other stuff. Bought my Freewheeler in April and have rode it more since then than I have my soft tail in 4 years. Riding ATVs for over 20 years it was easy hopping on the Freewheeler. It’s a blast!

Got our 17FW this past January. First Trike after a lifetime on 2 wheels. It's a whole different kind of fun and takes a minute to get used to. Especially (at least for me) the coming into a sweeping turn at 50mph is a strange feeling. We love the whole personalization thing and have always tricked out our many rides over the years. This one is a really great platform to go as mild or as wild as you like. I could list the accessories (40 so far) that we have added if you like but here's a couple of pics ...

I've owned my FW for 18 months and should have bought one years ago. My medical history and my age are not quite as full as yours but I experienced a similar level of enjoyment when I made the transition. I've put on more miles on my FW in the past few months than the previous several years on my Dyna. Two years ago I bought a mobility walker to use on bad days. The day I saw my new walker parked next to my much loved Super Glide I laughed. I had enough respect for myself and my loved ones to be safe when walking so why would I ever think of leaving home on a two wheeler? My first plan was to hang up my helmet but when researching prices to sell my FXDC I came across a slightly used Freewheeler at my local Dealership. The pictures showed that in the seated position, my view on the Freewheeler would be almost identical to my Super Glide. After some research and discussions with my wife, a black Freewheeler replaced my black Dyna. The unexpected benefits of this transition were many. I discovered that my wife and neighbours were becoming increasingly worried when I rode off on my motorcycle. This was revealed in their comments when I brough home the trike. Another is the increased camaraderie with other senior motorcyclists. I enjoy using the trike to run errands and I often find a senior looking and anxious to talk while in the parking lot. Most will have a story about the last bike they owned and typically express regret that they didn't think of trying a trike.
