Default Tether on Tour Lid

Got the surprise of my life last night when I opened the tour lid. The HD retractable tour lid tether (#54171-11) broke and the lid went back farther than it should....large 6"+ crack in the fiberglas around the front hinge. Talked to parts mgr to have service mgr call me this morning. Long story short.....service writer called at 8:30 am...I rode down and pictures taken for replacement purposes. Had another retractable tether put on free (warning: don't buy one! this is the 2nd one I've had break). Looks like I'll need a new tour lid.

Someone makes a solid, hinged arm for a replacement, probably not a bad idea for someone who apparently opens/closes their lid a lot... I think it might be on the eglidegoodies site..

A lot of this Bling the motor company offers for sale. In there accessory catalog is not worth a red CENT. Ive bought a few things Clutch cable cover billet chrome.Head light trim ring, stick on chrome gauge bezel's. These things to me looked like they would fall off my bike or trike. Cause irreparable damage to the paint. Because some one makes some thing doesn't make it good or better then whats originally on there. Harley does come out with some good after accessories but some ain't good to me. Any ways a gust of wind could of done the same damage to the tourpack lid or body. That Sucks

This is the Ultra Tour-Pak brace from eglidegoodies. Takes about 20 minutes to bolt it on.

The retractable tether broke on me too. Found my stock tether and it will do just fine for now. +1 on avoiding the retractable model.

Default Possibly A Silly Question

This might seem to be a silly question, BUT SERIOUSLY - Why don't you go after MOCO thru the dealer to replace the tourpak lid on their dime? If you can show that you have replaced it MORE THAN ONCE, why wouldn't they try to make good on a poorly designed product? Their design failure resulted in your damaged tourpak lid! I'd give it a try.

I just installed one a few weeks ago. Where are they breaking? I would think that you guys aren't just throwing the lids open.

The 1st retractable, the cable twisted and couldn't open the tour lid...had to cut w/wire cutters. Dealer installed a new one at no cost...this is the one that the cable broke at the bottom clip. Yes, I do open the tour lid alot and no, I don't throw the lid open!! I open and grasp w/left hand...this time I wasn't prepared for the loud "snap" noise and let go of the lid. The dealer has to send photos of damage (cracked lid and broken tether clip) to HD district mgr for replacement....I don't pay. The stock tether unraveled and I had to wrap w/electric tape...threw it away. The 2nd retractable is temp until a stock one is ordered. Will look at the hinged one referred above.
