Default Custom Tri Glide/Freewheeler wheels

These Intro or Boze billet wheels can be ordered in a 4x4.25 bolt pattern (4x108), either a 15", 16", 17, or 18" sizing, correct backspacing of 3" for a 6" width wheel, 3.5"bs for a 7" width. Cost is approximately $500+/each.

These are just a small sampling of the hundreds of wheel options out there, that can be ordered to fit a Tri Glide or Freewheeler. I will add more links or photos, when I can spend some time to look them up.
Anything larger in width will necessitate custom fenders and anything wider than a 225 width tire will create a lot of rolling resistance and sap power.

Feel free to add other wheel options with links, if desired. Maybe Wizard will sticky this thread, for future owners.

These wheels from PS Vintage can be ordered in a 4x4.25 bolt pattern, 15x6 size, and the correct 3" backspacing. Cost is approximately $500/each.

Those are just a sample of wheels that can be custom-ordered from those companies, with many optional finishes. However, please note they are not off-the-shelf units.

These wheels are three-piece, very strong, and very light. Not cheap but lots of dealers will make one a good deal on them.

If that's really important, you can probably find an aftermarket bike wheel to closely match the rears. If you want all three wheels to be exactly the same, expect to pay a ton of money for wheels from Performance Machine, SMT Machine, RC Comp, etc.
In addition to their high cost, those rear wheels are mainly limited to the oem 5.5" width.

Hi Clint. I know I am reviving a very old post, but I do have a lot of questions surrounding tri glide wheels. It seems like very few people ever change them out for another manufacturer. It always seems that people gravitate towards the Harley Davidson chrome version or do some kind of powder coating etc. hate to say it but HD hasn’t ever changed the design or look of TG wheels that I’ve ever seen, and it’s a major part of the visual impact of the bike!

From your research, are there standard size automotive wheels that can be directly fitted to the tri-glide? I only ask in that the previous owner of my trike was incredibly meticulous about all aspects of the bike and maintenance, except the rear wheels. And they look kind of awful. Any thoughts or inspiration you, or anyone else may have I would deeply appreciate!

thanks man

I understand the frustration, Dave, and see the same questions asked, every week, on some of the other forums I belong to. As for your question about a readily available automotive wheel that is a direct fit on a Tri Glide or Freewheeler, I honestly don't know of any with the right specs and believe me, I've spent a lot of time on this particular subject. However, having custom wheels built, that will fit, is not difficult and certainly not rocket science. Here are the three questions I would ask a wheel manufacturer:
(1) Can you build the particular wheel I want, in the required bolt pattern, 4x108 aka 4x4.25?
(2) Can you build the wheel I want, in the offset I need, (-12) offset? A 6" width wheel with (-12) offset, would have a 3" backspace. A 7" width wheel with (-12) offset would have 3.5" backspace.
(3) Can you build the wheel I want, in the diameter I want? My suggestion would be a 15", 16", or 17" diameter wheel as those will have an excellent array of tire options.

If you would prefer, pm me for my contact info and I'll be glad to explain some of this, in greater detail. I get calls about this stuff all the time and always enjoy helping folks build their own cool rides.

Thanks for this 'leg work'!
I've got the HD Entruder Mags on my Tri. Like them but the 19" front limits me in tire selection. Did you happen to come across anything very similar to the entruder in a stock Tri size wheel?

Of course I can go through all your links when the weather turns but not now.

Again, cheers!

Clint, just uncovered the previous work you did on this subject on the Trike Forums. Nice work! Lot of great, deep info on HD trike rear wheels!!

Still wish the right dimensions and specs were readily available as a typical car rim. Would love nothing more than to have a pair of Cragar SS 5 spoke mags on mine! I grew up in the 60’s and those were the coolest rims out there to me.
