I was considering this until I learned that I need a $99 splitter to install on my 2011 FLHTK.

Sounds like an excessive price for an adapter, who quoted you that?

I checked HD's website and they offer that headlamp as an upgrade for my bike but it comes with a wiring harness adapter. This is the part number.

I checked out that link and the part description looked like a Halogen bulb unless it a conversion to Halogen adapter. So for $225 you get a much better brighter headlight.
