It is not completely waterproof (nor are any radios that I know of) but it is marine grade and treated so it can take some weather. A splash guard is probably not a bad idea... although I run a non marine grade Alpine on my SG and have had no issues.

Biketronics sells a nice water proof cover that fits tight in the outside frame housing of the radio..I have one and use it when i wash bike or get caught it a storm...I just got the cover for my 04,never had issues before...just got a good deal on it!! Good luck on sale!!.........o~`o...................
