The ride is very good, these are very nice shocks. They are adjustable too for ride height, and dampening, so they can be fine tuned to your riding style and preference. Adjusting the preload collars and "free bleed" screw makes a noticeable difference. The ride height is the same as the stock premium hand adjustable 12" shocks, but ride height can be lowered by turning the adjusting collars up.
As for wanting air ride, and this is probably a stupid reason, is more for aesthetic purposes. I want to be able to lower the bike and give it that slammed look when parked. Also, when talking to other riders with air ride, they claim the ride is still very good.
