Default Cam upgrade for 2004 FLHRSI 88" TC, any suggestions / advice?

Doing the conversion to hydraulic cam tensioner plate will be my winter project this year, along with replaced the upper and lower rocker box gaskets.

I figure since I'm in there, I should swap out the cams to something a bit more peppy! I already have a stage 1 air cleaner, v&h true duals with jackpot slipons, and a dynojet powervision tune.

First thing I'd like to do is get a list of all the parts I will need to do this work, could anyone help me out in that department?

Secondly, there are so many different cams to choose from, I just don't know where to start. I'm about 275lbs, and I ride 2-up with my 125lb wife often. I feel like the bike sometimes lacks in mid-range power (passing power).

So does anyone have a suggestion on which cam set to go with?

I went with the SE 211 cams and have no complaints. Passing power is much improved. I have NOT had it dyno'd so I have no real numbers to pass along. I had an indy mechanic do it, but he used HD parts. One of the things I remember was he had me get the adjustable pushrods when I bought the various parts. I think there was also a cam install kit.

Between a Service manual and threads here you should get a good idea of the parts and tools needed. Searching the threads here will give you a good idea what others have used, how they did it and their satisfaction. Some threads I've subscribed to are:

I am in process of doing mine, after much thought about how I ride and what my real needs are I chose a Andrews TW-21. It was a tough choice for me between the 21 and 26 cams but since I really have no immediate plans to perform head work or bore it I went 21.
Also installing new lifters and quickee pushrods from S&S,Torrington inner cam bearings, new cam bearings, baisley spring and piston for the oil pump and Cyco tensioners. Also had a PCV so ordered a new starting map from Fuelmoto along with the auto tune and spark plug wires, have a set of later headpipes with O2 bungs.

Hope to have it put back together this weekend.

I'm 325 and my wife 125. I have the Andrews 21 and can not say enough good things about this cam. That or the 26. Love it.

I just did my 2006 Street Glide a few weeks ago, I put in the S&S 509 cam. REALLY like the cam. 85 foot pounds of torque from 2500 rpm thru 5500 to 6000 rpm.. LOTS more usable power. I always ride two up with gear.

I used the Dave Makie 510 in my 88 and loved them. 79 hp with 90 torque in an '03 RK.
