The lowering shocks are pricey, but will maintain a very comfortable ride. The lowering brackets are cheaper but they alter the angle of the shocks and hurt the ride considerably.

Yep, I tried the lowering brackets and were very unhappy with them - seems like the altered angle interfered with the functioning of the shocks. Went with the low profile shocks, same as on the Street Glide and RK Custom and really like them. Kinda pricey, but function very well. I like that fact that I can adjust the preload with air rather than having to adjust the spring like on some of the aftermarket shocks.

I lowered my 99FLHRPI 1.5" with a 11.5" shock from HD($242). Stock length is 13". I'm really happy with it, and you can adjust it for preload for your wieght or 2 up riding. The one thing I did notice was it handled a lot better after I dropped the front 1" also. With only the rear lowered it didn't handle as well. Just my experience. You can also get chrome or black for the same price. Hope this helps.
