It's the overflow tube that drains excess fuel from the filler opening when you over fill or splash gas inside the chrome cover of your tank fill opening.

Yea, that thingie me bob.

Why would you just start pulling on stuff not knowing where or what its purpose is? Not trying to be a **** but had to ask....

Remove the tank console, and plug it back in. Bolt in the front, bolt in the back, remove gas cap. Plug the tube back in, and reassemble.

Buy a HD service manual from your local dealer.

OP, It's that easy. shooter is also right; a service manual will pay dividends for as long as you own your bike. Should be ordered the day you buy your bike if you're at all inclined to DYI.

If it's a California model, the vent tube runs to a charcoal emissions canister, that's mounted under the battery. Non California bikes just run to bottom of frame and vent to the atmosphere.

I had the damn Manuel I've moved and forgot it behind I'm not happy about the wasted 60 bucks. Didn't mean to pull on cable since it was loose I thought I had pulled it out of place by accident .
