Still looking at pre- owned . found a 12 classic for $16500 with 5,000 miles. Also found a 12 ultra with 4400 miles for $1500 more. How important are these extra low mile biles compared to one with say 20000 miles and ate a little less money I ride about 3-4000 miles per year.

My opinion; 18K is more than I would want to spend on a 2012. I would go for the classic and try to shave a few more dollars off. As far as the miles between the two I think it's not relavent.

I found my 06' with 12K at three years old for a nice price. It's about to roll over 80K and all I've done is the timing chain tensioners, stator and regulator. Well, and a lot of tires. Buy what turns you on within your price range. Life's to short to settle with less than what you expect from a new to you scoot.

Both bikes are too much for what you can get now a days. Case in point. I am riding a 12 limited bought with 11,261 miles 6 weeks ago (how long before I stop counting the weeks, like a newborn I love my bike). I paid 15,700.00 for it.

Shop around check out ebay and look at what they are selling for. You can get one from a dealer on ebay (I did) and pay less. Get the ESP (I think worth the money and peace of mind, others opinions vary) and ride with joy but don't smile, bugs taste terrible.

Those mileage is fine, but don't tell them that, get a much better price (like 3-4k less) or move on. Don't pay more than trade for the pre 2014 there are are a lot out there and in 2 months the North is done buying and riding and the dealers will want to get rid of them.

Figure the 12 Ultra is $10k cheaper than new. That's not bad. Yeah though there are a lot of changes from 12 to 14-15

How do you think I feel with an 04? LOL

20K miles represents probably 3 to 4 years of riding for the average rider.

Dealers will offer more on low mile trades. That tells me that mileage is a factor if ever you go to sell or trade.

Lower mileage bikes typically cost a bit more. And buyers should use higher mileage as leverage to gain a bigger price concession.

The prices quoted seem like good starting points for negotiation. Try to knock a grand off, if you can. But if you have to have one of these, you won't be paying way too much, especially if there are a few desirable adds.

Where I live, there's no sales tax on private party vehicle sales. So, they are preferred used bike source, as far as I'm concerned. That private bike purchase can can save you nearly $2,000, where I live.

To me, low mileage should mean less wear and tear, and higher mileage means more wear and tear. Your call.

Good luck.

You can buy my '14 Limited for what I owe so I can get a CVO Road Glide Ultra
Yes, I'll sell it. Only 5600 miles now, but that will go up.

As far as mileage goes on the bikes you are looking at.......my experience is that motorcycles are mechanical and mechanical things need to run in order to stay in working order. Just because a bike has super low miles for its age means it sat a lot of the time. When a bike does that seals dry out and crack and gaskets shrink causing leaks when it finally gets used again.

PS
I'm serious about mine. Lol

If you are buying used, I would target a 2012 Ultra Classic or limited. I bet you can find one for under $17k, especially since the 2015's have hit the dealerships.

Good Luck!
