hope someone can share some info on this subject..Have a 2013 Ultra Classic and this Sunday was having start up problems. After 75 miles the wife and i pulled over for directions and as i switch ignition on , flip run switch , and wait for check engine light to clear , i try the start button and nothing. checked all external wiring just in case and everything looked tight. tapped the starter and bike turned right on. We rode back home so's not to get stuck further out. Got back to my garage and same thing..wouldnt start. Absolutly no clicking or clacking just dead silence..until i tap the starter housing and Bam..rite on no problem..can it be solenoid??

If it still not under Moco's warranty and you want to repair it yourself,I would think your diagnosis of the starter solonoid is probably a good place to start.Make sure wiring connections are clean and tight first.

I had a similar issue with my 03 with the exception the starter would at times make a horn like sound when the starter button was pushed. I pulled the end cap off of the solenoid on the starter (3 small screws) and cleaned the brass or copper ring carefully as it was blackened, blew it out with air, and it was shiny again. Replaced the cap securely and haven't had a problem since. Carbon from the contacts actuating the starter build up over time.

Its a 13 and should be still under warranty. Take it in and let them figure it out.

thanks for the feedback boys..it turned out to be the starter housing was completely loose. you see i had a reinhart true dual exhaust installed and the dealer wasnt exactly thorough. found one of the bolts for starter had made its way completely out of its seat..no thread lock or loctite was used. loctite / threadloc bolts back into starter..havent had a problem yet. thanks again for takin the time to share your thoughts..and im a newbie here so i will be uploading some sweet picks of places and cool **** ppl we've met on the road - Mack
