Default 2014 Dual beam in a 2012

How easy is it to retrofit a 2014 headlight into a 2012 SG? I picked one up over on the classified section but it is just the light. No mounting ring or trim ring. I can handle the wirng part but is the 14 mounting and trim ring required or will it just drop in to my 12?

I just put a '14 dual halogen in my 08. I was fortunate to have been given the stock harness with it so I only needed to put an H4 3 prong plug end on the harness. I did have to buy the mounting ring assembly for $51 though.

Im pretty sure the one I have comming includes the stock harness and im sure I can chop it up so it works with the H4 plug. Kinda bummed about the trim ring.

If you're talking about the Daymaker projector, you will need the mounting ring, and be able to build your own wiring harness.

I sold mine to a friend, but he got my ring. He is very good with wiring, and is thinking of building some harnesses for others, as HD doesn't make one that way.

I put a Black Daymaker projector from the P&A on mine, and bought the harness to go that way.

I put the 14 Dual in my 12. You need the bulb, mounting ring and new wiring harness (or make your own) Harley wants $100 just for the wiring harness!!
Guys buy these classified adds for $75-100 then realize they need other parts.
The whole Dual Bulb kit is $147 at Kutter with everything included.
It does look nice though.....

Well I only gave $35 for the bulb so guess I didn't do too bad. I thought it would be a cheap substitute until I get ready to buy a daymaker or truck lite.

Headlight is here, bucket will be here tomorrow. It's wired up but I sure would like to have both bulbs on when I switch to high beams. Only way I can come up with is to jump a diode between the high and low wires but that puts the wire for the high beam running 2 bulbs and I'm not sure it can handle it. Anyone know how the harley harness is wired?

Both bulbs should be on with High Beam. That's what mine does with the Harley harness.

The dip beam should be on all the time, with the high beam being switched on and off with the dip switch, if that helps!

I have an older twin bulb headlight on my 1990 bike which works fine, but it's a long time since I installed it and I don't recall if I had to do any magic to make it work.
