Thanks, yes I have been looking at the se cams you mentioned. pebbles in a beer can yeah I suppose thats close to the sound of my motor. Idle is where the rattle is most pronounced, above idle just some ticking, out on the road little to no noise but at idle sounds like its ready to come undone.

I'm betting since Dave also has a line of cams that he would recommend one of his own.

The most important factor on choosing a cam is your CR. A lower lift cam will usually be quieter, the SE211 is a good lower lift cam if you're in the 10.5 range.

Maybe the more aggressive cam profiles are noisier at hot idle because the higher spring rates are maybe causing the hyd lifters to bleed down a bit at hot idle resulting in a little extra clearance in the valvetrain if your still running stock oil pump that gives fairly low oil pressure of approx 7-8lbs @ hot idle with 20-50 oil.

So maybe when collectively together you have a perf cam with more aggressive lobe design along with high spring rates and low oil pressure at idle the strong springs could maybe cause hyd lifters to bleed down a bit making it very clicky/ticky at idle speed but quites down at cruise speed when oil pressure is much higher keeping the hyd lifters pumped up under the increased load of heavy duty perf valve springs.

That's where a perf hi pressure/hi vol oil pump could help out because it provides better/higher oil pressure at hot idle to keep the hyd lifters fully pumped up hopefully resulting in a quieter valve train at idle.

Just my thoughts on it.

Scott
