Dealership problems (service dept)
This winter I took my bike to a dealership that I never used before for winter storage. At first the only things I wanted to do was lower the front end and 1000 mile maint. I asked time and time again all winter what the total bill would be, with no straight answer. Then I decided to add the spun aluminum gauges and powdercoat my exhaust tips. I can understand (alittle) that they cant give me any exact cost of the powdercoating. But still no total on everything else. Everytime i call to see when the bike may be done and I still dont get a straight answer. Now i am starting to get mad.
Well, lastnight my girlfriend and I decided to stop in a put some money towards the unknown total. as we full in there is a number of bikes on the side of the building near the service dept. She made the comment that maybe my bike is outside. Once we were in the serive dept I asked to see the bike. The service writer and i found it outside. I was not a happy camper at this point. Then it gets worse. On the top of the right saddle bag there appeared to be something that was spilled on top of the lid. I couldnt tell what it was, neither could the service writer. Then I saw a scratch about 6 inches long on the right side of the bag. I didnt touch it like I should have. ( I was very pi**ed off at this point) But there may have been primer showing? It was a grayish color. I pointed it out and he said they were going to try to buff it out. I think it is too deep to buff out.
I was told I would get a call today about it. No call. What would you guys do? The service manager is who I been dealing with all winter and getting nowhere. So I cant get to him. Suggestions? Thanks, Eric

RE: Dealership problems (service dept)
i can emphasize with you...i would be i a whole new dimension of pissed off. I would go directly to the OWNER, bypass the service mgr. I would give them ONE chance to fix the saddlebag, if mine they would repaint it...no questiones asked. I would not pay a dime for the storage or anything else they have already done to the bike. I would then call the BBB and file a complaint with the dealership. HD HQ takes very serious the BBB complaints. I would also call HD HQ just for kicks.
Lesson learned. the dealer knows exactly how much storage cost plus every part. There is no excuse in getting the run around on an estimate.

It is time to meet with the Shop Manager or Owner and ask for adetailedaccounting of the work performed, the damage and their plan to reestablish your satisfaction as a customer. You'll need to make it clear that you are profoundly dissatisfied currently and it is entirely up to them to correct the issues. When speaking to them keep it low, remain very calm and accept nothing less than complete satisfaction.

I'd set up a meeting with the owner and explain what has been going on and what you found. Act like a gentleman and ask what he intends to do about it. I've found I get better results when I keep cool and work the system vs beat my chest and act like a fool. I've worked in customer service and can tell you a cool head got better results than a hot head. I would make the hot head work twice as hard to get what he or she wanted than the person that was civil. I actualy got great pleasure watching peoples eyes bug out as they ranted and raved and carried on, just made me drag my feet and put them on the slow boat to china. If you don't get satisfaction then I would contact the MoCo and bring them in on the problem. I would not accept a repainted lid, I'd want a new one.

I would start by letting the owner know my feelings. Probably loudly! (But that is just me.) If not completely taken care of:
To contact the Motor Company directly, please write:
Harley-Davidson Customer Service
3700 W. Juneau Avenue
Milwaukee, WI 53208
To speak with a Harley-Davidson customer service representative call (414) 343-4056.
Ride Safe,
Mike

Just another dealership nightmare. It seems to be never ending. I would request a meeting with the owner and GM. Have everything written down(so you don't forget in the heat of battle). Explain everything calmly and don't leave until you have a written bill and are assurred that damages will be taken care of. Bring along a friend as a witness. Good luck!!

There are good dealerships, and then there are ones like you describe. You'd do everyone a favor by stating the name of the dealership so we can avoid that place at all costs. If enough people know about a place like that and avoid it, perhaps they'll change. But we owe it to each other to share the info, imho. Although there are 2 sides to every story, I can't imagine what their "side" would be in this case.

Also, blast the Stealer on http://stealer-dealer.com/.Be truthful and accurate on what you post. I posted on on my dealer and got an attitude change. It takes a few days for it to post but at least it's there. Be sure and tell the dealer.

Before you approach the owner or manager, write everything down and how you want to say it. much of the time in heated discussions, you may forget some point you wanted to make sure you got across. Write it down and be professional not confrontational. If all that doesn't work, then up the ante, by getting upset and calling the BBB and Harley Corp

Maybe small claims as last resort?
Another thing.I think at this point I would stop all work until the scratch issue is resolved.
