Default Zumo 660 won't charge

I followed the instructions, connected the power leads to the extra wires at the headlight, and installed using the H-D fairing mount. Everything is lovely, but no charge at the cradle. I checked the leads with a meter, and there is power...

Any ideas what I missed???

Thx!

I don't know if you'll get any help here or not. If not try here:

Yeah, the Zumo works, it just doesn't charge in the cradle. The battery is in right. Wish I knew how to check the cradle itself with the meter...

Have you tried hooking this up to the battery instead? Are you certain you have the positive wire going to +12VDC and the negative wire going to ground which is why I suggested hooking it up to the battery directly.

This just happened to me with the Zumo 350. It worked fine for more than a year and then stopped charging in the cradle. Of course, I was on a 11-day trip when it happened. My buddy has the same unit and my GPS would take a charge on his bike. Alternately, his GPS would not charge on my bike. Garmin is sending me a new power cable and I'm waiting for it to arrive. Will the unit take a charge from another source - say using the automotive charger? Will the unit will charge in another cradle. This might help you eliminate the unit as the issue. It could well be a bad power cable or the contacts in the cradle.

You can check for Voltage at the cradle and if I remember they were the pins in the center area….Sounds like the unit isn't making contact in the cradle….Had a similar problem and I would get a message….lost external power on the screen or something like that….Unless the unit is defective….you can call there hotline just for HD and they are very helpful.
Did you check the fuses? Also if the unit it in direct sunlight (hot) it will not take a charge per Garmin….don't understand that one..Good luck!

I confirmed power is hooked up correctly as to polarity. The unit charges up on USB. I did not have it in hot sun. I can only figure either a faulty power cable in the Zumo harness or the cradle itself. Gonna call Garmin customer service to see if they can assist. Thank you all for your responses.

Use a voltage meter or a 12v light and test the pins on the cradle….one side is ground and the other hot….good luck

I would try another positive power location, I had to move mine after about six months as mine would not charge after a while. I think the headlight had two spots, I just moved to the other and everything has been working since.

You are turning on the bike correct? Just asking to be safe.
