Default Old exhaust

Ust a quick question about your old exhaust. When you guys replaced it with after market, what did you do with the stock exhaust? Were you able to sell it, or did you just throw it away? I just have mine sitting in the garage.

I have OEM my seat, two windshields (Cee-Bailey and factory) and my OEM pipes sitting in my garage. At this rate, pretty soon I will be able to build another bike ;-)

many of us have sheds in the yard with old pipes and bars.

I have about 20 sets- custom parts come off my bikes before they are sold, the oem parts go back on.

the value of stock take off parts is low- if for instance if a rider is repairing crash damage "custom" parts may suit the rider better and be less expensive than the replacement part from HD.

a 'take-off' part from one model may have better value for a rider with another model- some of us with detachable tourpaks swap to the roadking signal bar/plate mount...while the RK riders may be grabbing up streetglide rear lights.

my local craigslist has dozens of listings for oem mufflers for $300...some people figure it's from a Harley, so it has to be valuable...
an oem part will be of value for a restoration, you just have to wait 50 years...maybe more since HD production is 100 times greater than it was in the 50's

stock windscreens are worth about $35 to me ( perfect shape), I cut them down to desired height...sometimes i see them advertised for $200....

I have kept all my old take off parts. I can always reinstall if I trade the bike in. I don't believe you get any more $ for your mods.

Thumbs up

Some of us rely on some of you chaps to part company with your take-off parts! I've just bought a bundle of stuff off recent bikes to add to my ole girl as part of an upgrade for her. So offer them for sale! There is a for sale section here on HDF, or Ebay is just great. Thanks!

I had my OEM pipes replaced with V & H on a bike I had about 15 years ago. Sold them. After a year of riding I began to hate the loudness of the V & H and was pissed I had sold the OEM's. Just sayin' ....... give it some thought. If you don't need the money might just want to hold on to them.

Yep... I keep all my takeoff parts until the bike is no longer mine. I just might, and have, put those parts back on before she goes down the road.
