Default StreetGlide rear suspension..

I've tried to live with the shortened suspension of my StreetGlide...

Rode around 300 miles yesterday, and the thing is just too damn bumpy...

I'm not a youngster and the constant impacting of my back is just too much to bear...

My question, has anyone altered the SG to where the rear suspension it a bit more forgiven..

I guess some Ultra shocks may work... Any Ideas?

You'll probably get a ton of advice on this..
All I wanted to add was NICE TourPak! I have the same one minus the fin.
The first issue of Baggers magazine had Performance Machines done up bagger with one of these Aftermarket tourpaks on it. On the front cover even!

At 110 bucks it was a bargan.

Good luck with the shocks.....

Richard-

First, try riding with 30-40 #'s in your 12" air shocks. The shortened shocks require more air than the std 13" on the Ultra.

If that doesn't work, spend $400 on Progressive 440's. My 05 SEbike came lowered front and rear from HD.. I put 12.5" std Progressive 440's on mine and the bike rides and handles much better. The 1/2" longer travel rear shocks raised the rear about 1/8".. Hope this helps.

Has anyone heard of or seen an automatic adjustable air ride system..
Most of the goldwingdings have this system...
Is there a system like it available for the Harley?

I just ordered a set of Works Performance Street Trackers based on feedback here. Some like the Progressive 440's, but some others don't, and at least one person reported he tried both 440's and Steel Trackers and found the latter much better. Since the ST's are cheaper than 440's, I decided that was the way to go, especially with Works' reputation.

ST's are made-to-order based on your weight, passenger weight, and other factors--and take about two weeks to make. When I get them in I'll report back, and starting April 30th I'll be giving them a nice test run to the Grand Canyon, 4200 miles round trip.

BTW, Works' provides a 10% discount for HOG members, so tell them when you order. Mine will come in at around $470 after the discount, not including shipping.
