Could be a pin hole in the fuel line in the tank that once exposed can cause this type of issue. If the tank is full and the line completely submerged there is no problem but once the pin hole is not submerged it can cause erratic running.
But why would that give me the ET high code? If the pinhole were the problem, how far down in the tank would it start to be a problem? The tank is over half full and it's happened twice since it was full.

Gas tank full, still got the code. It's under warranty but I don't know that I want to waste a lot of riding time for HD to troubleshoot. May just pay the 37 bux for the ET sensor. If it's not that I'll give them a stab at it.
Well, they can't get me in until Monday. I called their parts Dept. and was told 7-10 days for the sensor. Meanwhile their competition has one in stock and I don't want to lose a week of riding time. 37.94 is less than I'd pay in cab fare dropping it off and picking it up.
If it is under warranty why not let the dealer trouble shoot the problem? If it turns out to be the sensor its should be covered at no cost.
This. Sounds like you're doing a lot more work than you have to. Unless you're determined to fix it yourself, let the warranty that you paid for work for you. I think you'd be wasting more time troubleshooting yourself rather than letting the dealer figure it out.

In total, I've spent more time writing to this thread then I have working on the bike. $40 spent, problem solved now, rather than waiting until Monday, having to arrange transportation back from the dealer, waiting for their part to arrive, arranging transportation back to the dealer and being without the bike for ? days! Installed new Temp sensor and it appears to be fixed! Now I can put brakes in my cage, which coincidentally, started making noise yesterday.
