I get 30k from my front dunlops.
This - dealer should replace for free. My buddy had same thing happened, discovered after 3k miles and dealer put a new tire on for $0
tire casing are wrapped- just kinda like a roll of tape.
the reason for direction is so that under the normal forces encountered, the wrapping will be tightened, rather than loosened.
so for the front tire, that is the tail of the wrap in the same direction as rotation- the front tire see highest forces under braking
the rear tire sees highest forces on acceleration- the tail of the wrap is opposite direction as rotation
a tire casing coming apart could be pretty interesting when you only have 2

Thanks to all who have replied. I'm pretty sure it is the tire I had put on it when I bought it so will go back to the purchased from dealer. I bought it 08 or 09 so maybe I have one of the mismarked tires?
I do have the FSM so looked at the spacers after I got off the computer last night and saw that it was correct.

my bike does not have any gaps in the spacers. this looks like the front wheel could float back and forth. the service manual states to squeeze the lower legs together before tightening the pinch bolts. this looks like the front wheel is loose on the axle. could be a wheel bearing is going bad.
