Default Replacing police saddlebags with regular

I have a 2011 police road king and have been thinking about replacing the cop saddlebags with the regular road king saddlebags.

I would value the opinions of anyone who has purchased aftermarket saddlebags. Things like quality, fit, and finish would be good to know

Thank you

Make sure you're buying from a trustworthy source. Too many stolen bags on the market . . . .

Find a set of OEM lids and hardware on ebay, and buy the saddlebag lowers in the style you like. Top Shop, Bad Dad, Arlen Ness all sell high quality saddlebags.

If you're just looking for stock length saddlebags, check the classifieds on the custom bagger forums. Shoot me a pm, and I'll point you in the right direction. Takeoff saddlebags in stock lengths are reasonably inexpensive, and sometimes the lids, too, if the owner is upgrading to speaker lids. You'll likely need to source the saddlebag hardware, and ebay is a good place to look.

Beware the cheap saddlebags. The biggest problem I've seen with some of the inexpensive aftermarket bags are poor lid-to-lower section fitment, and there's often nothing that can be done about that.

or do a hardware swap on your bags....the top and bottom shells are same, just different latches and hinges.

many riders prefer the cop style as they are easier to get into.

they are not offered on civvy models due to a liability concern...riders opening the bag while riding, loosing control

Times have sure changed. My local HD dealer uses the "open while riding" statement as a selling point for the Rushmore bikes.

Love the cop bike bags for that reason. Easy to open and you can open while "stopped" at a light if you need something. They make puck covers if you don;t like the look. Keep 'em and have the new Rushmore bags for free.
