Default Foot board hex bolt size - RKC

I have a '99 RKC. Need to remove the right side foot board in order to remove the exhaust. What size are the two hex bolts that hold the foot board to the frame? I have a metric set, 10mm is too big, 8 is too small, 9 is not included in the set. Maybe 3/8?

Thanks

The leg with two cap bolts, needs a 1/2" socket, iirc.

The leg with the socket head cap screw takes a 3/8" hex key.

get over to Sears and get a tool set on sale.

for SAE fasteners, the bolt is measured by the shaft size- and the head size ( what size wrench) is always 3/16" larger.

so for example my floor boards are held on with 1/4" NC bolts- which take a 7/16" wrench.

SAE generally uses 2 thread pitches National Coarse ( NC) and National Fine ( NF)- with practice you'll be able to tell by eye, they can;t be mixed.

You'll kinda need SAE wrenches/sockets and some metric to work on your Harley.
also some SAE allens and some Torx- esp the T27 used for the primary cover

Thanks MK, I do have a lot of tools - mostly metric though, worked on European cars for a long time. I just couldn't find a hex that would fit those bolts last night, very frustrating, decided to buy one today, and wanted to know the right size.

The floorboard is held on to the two brackets by two small allen bolts. Often if you remove the board, the exhaust will come off. Then if needed, loosen the two support brackets & turn the brackets down & out of the way.
