I think it has something to do with the height of the seat and the size of the cavity the adjustable part goes in. They used to offer one that you can use the adjustable back rest with and the difference in the seat and pillion height is less than the one you seen and I have on my bike, they may still offer it I dont know. If i recall correctly the other one is wider also.

2013 and earlier hammock will accept adjustable back rest. 2014 will not. 2014 seat will fit 2013 but for some reason, 2013 seat will not fit 2014. Dealer ordered 2013 seat for me and 2014 seat for another customer. I got the 2014 seat and it worked for me but they could not get the 2013 seat on the 2014 bike.

The info on the Harley site is B.S. I have the 09-13 Hammock on my 14 and it fits like a glove. The only thing correct about it at all is the adjustable back rest will not fit only because it stands too tall and will cause problems for the passenger. I fixed that problem by simply cutting down the frame to only one hole, only takes a hacksaw and welder to accomplish this small task. Works great but you only have one hole which is not a problem at least for me as if it were any higher it would not sit in the small of my back. Got to remember that the hammock back is not as tall as the stock seat.
I also found that the 14 seat is really nothing more than the stock seat with the hammock inside of it. The 09-13 sets you back 1" and is wider 1" the 14 is none of this.
I have enclosed a pic of the frame cut down.

While it is technically "adjustable", that isn't the adjustable backrest. The adjustable has a hydraulic cylinder and a lever that allows adjustment of the backrest on the fly.

While you can fit the earlier version to a 2014+, I don't know I'd say it fits like a glove. Dealer took one and fitted to a new bike on the floor - first thing we notice is the seat bottom makes contact with the saddlebag guard and the rear mounting tab won't rest on the fender mounting hole unless you push down - it fits but not without some interference.

Doesn't hit my saddle bag guards and only a slight push on the back to mount screw.
Cant really just throw it up there and expect it to fall into place.

My Hammock from my 09 StreetGlide is on my 14 Limited. The dealer switched it and the hyd adj backrest when I traded to the 14.

I also have a pre-2014 heated hammock on a 2014 Limited with HD HYD adjustable back rest.. No rubbing. I don't use it due to only 5'8" and have hard time backing up with shorty legs. Came off of a CVO. Mint condition. Waiting for reasonable offer.
