Why do the motors vibrate in the touring models?

Why doesn't Harley put the counterbalanced or rubber mounted softail type motors in the touring models?

You would think if you are buying a high dolloar touring model that the company and the riders would rather have a vibration free type of ride in these models.

Anyone have any ideas or reasons behind this?

It only vibrates when idleing. Which I happen to like.

It smooths out nicely while riding. Even smoother then a counterbalanced HD motor.

 

WAY smoother than a B motor at highway speeds.

 

 

Certainly they could build a B touring motor.

My theory is that the touring bikes need all the power and rev that they can get and counter balancers are a parasitic draw on power. They balanced the Softail engine because they could not fit it in the frame if it was rubber mounted. The earlier solid mounted EVO Softails transmitted that vibration to the entire bike.

 

No true die hard Harley man would buy one then. The Softail has a sort of harshness when you start it and on brand new asphalt a slight roughness that a bike like a Roadking does not have. Plus it would add a grand or so to their price. I am with you on the silly idle at red lights and stuff. If you stay local, get a Softail.

 

You cant have a "vibration free" reciprocating piston type engine. You might want to look at the new electric cycles

 

There are plenty of cycles out there that are vibration free . Look into some of the metric motorcycles . Older harleys vibrated alot more than the newer ones do . I like the feeling of power and the way you are a part of the machine , motor vibration and road vibration are a part of the experience . I have never heard a cowboy ask for a vibration free stallion . Have you ever driven a 600 horse power muscle car ? They vibrate also - if you like it all good , if not there are options , ride safe either way -----

It is an archaic engine design surrounded by new technology doo dads, its a Harley lol.
