Assuming you can spin your own wrenches, $1K can get you a de-catted head pipe ($125), decent slip-ons ($400), air cleaner ($150)and a PC-V ($300).

Bars, then slip-ons until you have enough cash to do headers/ac/programmer

Personally, I think it's a little too soon for bars. Get to know the bike first and decide what you like or don't like about the stock bars. I agree with most of the other responses: get a de-catted head pipe (ebay), slip-on mufflers, air cleaner and a tuner. In case you're not aware, the decatted head pipe will sound much better and reduce the heat buildup beneath your right leg. Then, I say ride it for a while and see what you like/dislike. Just my 2 cents.

depends on your style...
I personally added a 8.5 KW windshield (I'm 6'2) $175
smoked turn signals $40
soft lowers $90
docking hardware and back rest for the girl. $500
I made my own floorboard spacers (water jet operator by trade)
Then I just started powder coating everything.

On a new bike, I would ride it a while before throwing money at it.

You might want to add performance, bling, handling, lighting, customization, chrome, seating, luggage, wind protection, cooling etc. Lots of items to look at, but first you need to determine what shortcomings you are most interested in improving.

Nice looking bike.......My first mod was exhaust, stage 1 and a fuel monitor system. Improves the sound and it runs better cause it's sucking in alot more air. That said it's a personal choice. Good luck and enjoy!

I spent my first $1000 on Slip-ons, windshield, 4 pt docking kit, backrest, led taillights, and a trucklight phase 7.

That's easy, you're from Ft Irwin....get yourself the hell out of there! No really.....get out of that place as fast as you can and don't look back!!

Was there in '83 and I escaped!
