Default What's Sturgis like one week early?

Going to Sturgis this Friday. We are going to do a lot of riding and it is supposedly way better the week before. Can anyone tell me what to expect right in Sturgis the week before?

I'm intrested in this also. I've been wanting to go but several people have told the wife and I that it's just plain crazy there. So the wife is hesitant to go. We have a great time in daytona at bikeweek though.

Best time to go in my opinion. Vendors are there, traffic isn't bad, and there's plenty of riding to do.

That's when I go every year and then I move on to other destinations.

A lot of it depends on what your interested in too. The big bands are there the week of the rally. The campgrounds are the wildest the week of the rally and so are the bars.

go to the Sturgis Web cams and see for yourself, right now there is a C6 vette and a mini van in Sturgis. I can relate to how great the rides are in the black hills, but for my wife and I, going during the rally is all part of the adventure.

It won't be so much of a zoo, there won't near as many people, but there's still plenty going on.

All the vendors won't be set up (if that matters to you)

Ride Safe!

We went in 1990 (50th)

It was cool to get there early and watch it grow
10's of thousands daily.

YEAH !! Get there early if you can.
Plus sight seeing is better (Mt Rushmore, Badlands
Natn'l Park, Deadwood Etc.

I'm leaving Saturday and should arrive Monday. Last year I got there a few days before rally and had no trouble getting around to Rushmore, Devils Tower etc. It got packed later on but if you get in all the checklist sites you can kick back and watch the madness.

Red face Re: Going to Sturgis early

I showed up (On my FXSTB) at Sturgis 1 week early, still lots of things to do.
I left the East coast in 07' at the end of June, stopped in Pueblo for the Street-Rod Nationals, then went to Vegas. After that I headed for Southern California I headed North on 101, then stayed in Hollister for the 60th.
I made a detour to Lake Tahoe then arrived at Sturgis (Stayed at days-end campground, as usual). My gal (Now wife) was worn-out so we just took short rides that first week (One week early), then took longer rides for the rest of our stay. Being a car guy too, we also stopped at the Syracuse fairgrounds, for a car show (We usually stop at the Woodward Ave. Cruise).
Sunday morning we loaded the Nightrain & rode back to R.I... I unloaded the m/c, took a shower and headed for work that night (11:00pm - 7:30am).
great trip... 8,500 miles in 5 weeks!
What was the question again?

Heading out Friday and will be staying a few nights and then over to the Teton's. Might stop thru on the way home? Never been there the week prior but I can tell you the week after it is dead and everyone is long gone!
