Thanks for the reply Hogpro. That's why I swapped the 16 x 5 out for the 16 x 3 chrome airstrike. Actually it was a swap plus $300 for the chrome 16 x 3 airstrike.

 

OK, a new problem has arisen. Now that I have the new wheel on, which looks great I might add. I noticed a split down the center of my rear tire, which when you look at it from directly behind the bike, it veers off to the right. It doesn't go all the way around the tire so there is a start and stop point.

In addition to swapping out the wheel, I also replaced my 12" touring shocks with 13" shocks from a Road King, then added a two inch drop kit, which really only dropped the bike about 3/4 of an inch.

I can definitely feel the difference in the ride. It's a much smoother ride. I put about 15 lbs. of air in and thought everything was OK. Obviously, the slice in the tire has been created by something up in fender well. Its hard to believe that a 3/4 inch drop can make that much of a difference.

Has anyone out there had a problem such as this?

 

Had that happen with a too long rear seat mounting screw and an air ride slammed all the way down. Was way lower than what yours should be, although with lowering blocks it does change where the shocks effectively bottom.

After much trouble shooting, it looks like the problem has been solved. Originally, I pumped about 15 lbs psi. into the shocks. Additionally, the seat screw was 3/4 inch in length. Not too long under normal conditions but obviously too long with the lowering kit installed.

I swapped out the seat screw for one 1/2 inch in length. Then I pumped it up to 25lbs psi. I took it for a test ride and there was no bottoming out and the ride is smooth. I'm going to remove the shocks this weekend and replace the stock oil 5w with Belray 10w fork oil. I should get a better ride with less pressure according to other threads on this forum. I'll keep you all posted.
