I've also had two RG's and logged well over 60k miles on them... never had any issues like that ~ or heard of it, for that matter.

Happened to me last year on my 02 RG on a very windy day when fueling up. Mine never came completely off, as I caught it when the first side came loose. I fixed the problem by installing a 3/8 flat washer on the back of each outer wellnut before tightening them down. The outer mounting holes on the outer fairing for the windshield are not round, but oval shaped. The washer gives the wellnut more support from the back side. As an added precaution I added an extra screw and wellnut between the 2 outside mounting screws on each side. These are holes rather than the slots that the stock mountings are. I have the 6 over extra tall windshield which catches more wind than the stocker. It won't happen again!

Hopefully it won't happen again for me. I ordered a new shield from Clearview (X-tra tall-tinted-with vent) talked to John from Clearview and he said they never had a problem with the RGs,that H-D knows there is a problem with H-Dswindshields or the gasket and isn't addressing it. Sill dukin' it out with dealer and MOCO. Haven't heard back from either yet! Imagine that. Dealer says it should be MOCO problem, friends tell me if the dealer says it's a warranty problem MOCO will back them????? He said she said at the liars lounge!!!!!!!!

This is the dealership's responsiblity per the Predelivery and Setup Manual:
Windshield Installation: FLTR
1. See Figure 2-8. Place black plastic washers (4) on the
five mounting screws (3). Position rubber trim along bottom
of windshield. Insert screws through windshield
holes and thread loosely into five Wellnuts (5) with rubber
washers (6).
2. Push Wellnuts with rubber washers into holes in fairing.
3. Beginning with the center screw and working outward
toward the rear edges of windshield, tighten all screws to
6-13
in-lbs (0.7-1.5 Nm). Make certain that the four outer
screws are located at the upper end of the slots in the
windshield.

Just to let everybody know the H-D dealer made good on the windshield and credited my account for the damage done to old one. They apologized for the time delay (they were moving into a new place) So if you get a chance stop by NEES H-D in Galesburg Il. and take alook at the new place! Tell Shelly & Mike HI! And no I'm not affiliated with them and this could of been a rip on them if theyhadn't come thru.
