Occam's razor...... All things being equal, the correct solution is usually the simplest.
"dumb question" i don't think so but i'll bite what is it supposed to do? "throttle reset", I know resets the throttle... but to what setting? stock rpm? that's to say it readjusts the ECM? I didnt know that.

Sometimes, people unknowingly blip the throttle as they shut off the bike. The ECM remembers this and sets the idle to this higher setting. Cycling the ignition on, off, three times resets the idle to the original 1000 rpm range.

I thought it was 4 times
Ignition off , run/stop set to run

Ignition on count 1,2,3
Ignition off count 1,2,3
Repeat 3 more times

I have local mechanic that ALWAYS reaches with his left hand to turn of ignition while right hand is on the throttle and I ALWAYS have to reset the idle afterwards ....

Sorry, it is 4 times. Wait for the security/engine lights to go out between cycles.

i doubt this will help me as i usually use my right hand to turn the bike off, but i cant speak for hte mech. or the dyno guy, so its worth a shot. i thought it was 3 times but i will do 4 just to be sure, extra cant hurt

Check and make sure your throttle shaft didn't crack and break at the screw on the left side when looking at it. That is somewhat common and when it am happens your throttle position sensor on the left side gets a faulty reading and you have a high idle.

He had different throttle body (TBW) than the previous years with the setup you're mentioning and he no longer even has that bike...

Even still he never did come back and tell us all what the problem was. Kinda wondering.

2008 FLHT stage 1 plus some stuff. Had high (1500-1600) idle, and after messing with it and getting very frustrated, I remembered reading somewhere (Here, I think) about that reset trick. It worked. Have had to do it a couple times over the years, but it has worked every time. Thanks to all you folks out there sharing your experiences. Lots of good advice and tips.
