Default OEM Parts Coming from Harley...

I was in an accident on 06/21 and my bike was at the repair shop on 06/23. All aftermarket parts have been ordered and are here waiting for install.....The Harley parts (batwing, innner fairing, saddlebags) have been ordered from Harley. BUT, I was told it could take up to 4 weeks to get the parts back. Huh...why? I have the basic vivid black paint...shouldn't those parts be sitting ready for shipping?

They always over estimate the wait time, so you'll be pleasantly surprised when they show up early..

I ran into this problem a few years ago when I went to buy a vivid black front fender. I was told that some parts are stocked by HD strictly for bike production. They are not available to replenish dealer stock. Also some painted parts that are used in bike production are not always available until a given color is set for a production run. No onesies and twosies in the paint shops. This is just how modern day mass production works. Luckily a nearby dealer had a new one his customer backed out of buying. Otherwise the wait would have been 8 to 12 weeks. Of course you could also buy one primed and get it painted locally. I prefer factory.

This has always been the case when I ordered a painted part...quoted a long lead time...then when the parts department called me weeks earlier than the estimated time I was a happy camper!

But...if by some chance they are out of your color when your order comes in, you have to wait until they set up to shoot it again. Then you have the longer wait time.

It has to be a better system than this? You have your customers who have spend thousands for their bike sitting around waiting on parts instead of using them for the reason they bought the damn thing for.....riding!!!

I bought a new front fender and CVO style bags from HD separately, it took 4 weeks each time. They were black denim if that makes a difference.

It will always be quicker to get painted parts in a color that is available for the current production year. Vivid black and black denim will always ship faster than big blue pearl simply because they are always doing a production run. With the non current colors they have to either wait until they have a min number of pieces or run a special batch.

yep, all depends on the paint runs. I laid my bike down last year. They quoted 8-12 weeks just to get parts, it was done in ready to pick up in 6 weeks. Hopefully it will be quicker for you too.
