I've got the Vivid Black paint. From all the threads I've been reading and there are a plethora, the only diff between denim and Vivid paint is the glossy clear coat. Here's the question; If I were to sand down the glossy clear coat then re-shoot with flat clear coat will I have a denim black paint? Since I dont want to screw with removing any decals how much would I need to take it down to achieve the finish I'm after (a Denim Black paint job)?
Thanks in advance for the input.....Tucci

How deep would I need to go or do I just need to take it down enough to dull the gloss clear?

You only need to remove the gloss.

Damn Tucci...I think the bike looks smokin' as-is. I've always said that black is the only legitimate color for a motorcycle!!! Good luck with the transformation. Don't ***** it up!!

I think you would be making a mistake. Friend has a denim SG and has a couple scuffs. I suggest this experiment to you as I did him with the removal of scratch. Take off a saddlebag and experiment there where it cannot be seen.

Ok Mike, I will take that council and will proceed cautiously.

I agree with the trial run on a side cover or other test piece. First thing you need to do is use a good degreaser/wax remover, then a very light sanding with at least as fine as a 400 grit to scuff off any shine. After a thorough cleaning and tack rag wipe down you are ready for the flat clear coat. From start to finish the key things to keep in mind are compatibility of materials and adhesion. That's why they are referred to as "paint systems". Good luck!
