Of course, there's a lot more wiggle room (usually) for the dealer in a used bike. That $3000 might become $5000 pretty quickly, if the dealer thinks you're serious about buying!

and that's what i thought, too. so i did ask the salesman about that - "do you have any more "flexibility" on the price of the used bike versus the new one?"
response - "blah, blah, blah. not really."
i don't know what they feel they need to get for profit on a used bike, but i did not get the sense that he had $2,000 he could come down. maybe a few hundred.
.......i think they probably have a bit of wiggle room. when i traded for my 2013, they gave me 14000 for my ultra classic with 14999 miles on it. i went back a week later and they had it on the floor for $20000 if i recall correctly.

you may well be right...
so, let me throw some #s out here:
2014 ultra classic - HD dealer "discounted price" - $21,300
2011 ultra limited - HD dealer "asking" price - $18,559
2008 RKC - dealer offered me $10,000
yeah, there might be some "wiggle room" in the sales price on the '11, but it doesn't seem to me like any of these numbers are too "outrageous" to me.
but maybe i'm naive...how do these numbers look to you guys?

i guess you don't know until you try.
Ha ha, of course that's what he said. Now, what *I* said was "if he sees you're serious about buying". Asking him about his flexibility is kicking the tires. Offer him a number. He'll say "if I can get that, will you take it today?" and the dance begins. That's when you find out if he has flexibility!
$21,300 sounds to me like a reasonable price for a 2014 UC. I would ask them to throw in any 'prep' and 'doc' fees along with that. Remember, they'll oftentimes get more 'flexible' as you're heading for the door.
