Yep...im thinking waiting.
Its really so close to a 15 release and you could use that time for some more down payment cash...that plus your trade and you will be in a good place!
I came off a 11 Heritage classic softail and I was in the same situation you were....it rode great and was very close to being paid off but I could resist the call of that 14 ultra limited!
That was in Feb. and I had a great next few month riding it....but if it was July and not Feb. I would have waited.
Just my 2c but I would have gotten the classic and not the limited...just like your thinking.

thanks for all the input, guys! i should probably mention that the dealer is already discounting the new '14's due to slow sales during a miserable spring earlier this year. the ultra i've got my eye on is discounted a couple grand off MSRP. don't know how much lower they might go when the '15's come out.

3K less than a new 14 for a 3 year older bike? Wouldn't even consider it, that's robbery!
Doesn't the 11 have a 96 motor?
There are so many improvements to the Rushmore's that 3K is a small price to pay.
Lots of good deals going on right now to clear out the 14's to make room for the 15's especially on the not so popular Ultra.

Only averaging about 1,500 miles a year why bother upgrading? If you are really considering an Ultra though, why not rent one for a day and put some real miles on it? Figure out what you liked on it that you don't have on yours. You could always consider just adding a trunk, lowers, etc to yours. You really need to think about what is important to you guys and figure out what makes the most sense financially.

"to be honest, we would very probably do more (some?) long distance riding if we had the "upgrade" and more comfortable seating for my bride. (she's actually encouraging me to upgrade, because she would like to go on some "adventures"!)"
This is reason enough to get a new bike. 14 is a no brainer. So many upgrades, that the value is there.
I was at local dealership this weekend and they had several of them marked down as the Ultra was a quicker seller.
Think the time is right for a new bike for you.
