Default Helmet - Help - Please

My Harley Helmet slipped out of my hand today as I was fishing for my keys in my pocket. It did not drop more then 3 feet. The helmet cracked in several areas. Above the ear area. The model number is 97212-02V for the helmet that I purchased directly from Harley. I found out the helmet itself is made by HJC......

Well now I get to go out and get a new helmet which is fine (NOT) so I thought I would get opinions on the better helmets out there. Has anyone heard of VOX? or some of the $125 brands?? They all seem to have the DOT on them....

Any advice?? I would like to stay with the flip helmets...they are so convenient.

Thanks
Joe

3 feet you say? And several cracks? Kinda scary don't ya think?
What would your head look like in a low speed accident?

You should be ok with the DOT helmet but you should wait
for the vast audience to respond. I never cared much for
thr half cup look but full face bite also.

Personal preference rules I guess.

Here's what I just bought. They are incredibly light and no 'mushroom head.' Exceptional customer service too!

I guess at this point; I am really freaked out about buying another helmet. $275 for that harley helmet and it was only 3 years old. I just got my 2007 street glide.... and to be honest; I like the helmet when first riding a new bike.

I guess a Shoei at $500 is great but are they good helmets all that price?

I have to agree on the carbon fiber helmet. I just bought one and it is by far the best helmet I have ever owned and I have owned a bunch. I like the Biker's Choice until I got the carbon fiber.

No helmet laws here .......yet.....
So don't wear one....... probably should
I don't buy the best about $100 out of J&P.
Dropped mine few times, never cracked.
But If I was to wear one frequently would do the carbon fibre too.
The cheaper thicker ones seem to get more wind buffeting.
Lot of wind issues here on I80 and I 25.
Last year went to Nebraska HOG rally wind was a b.i.t.c.h. coming up
from SW. Helmets knocked us around more than anything.
Crossed stateline into WY. Helmets off and ride was much better.

Harley adds their (there) logo and $100 to and HJC helmet. So why not just buy an HJC helmet?
3-5 years is all you get out of a helmet anyway, so don't feel bad that you have to replace it.
If you want to know more about helmets then you ever thought possible, go to webbikeworld.com
these guys have tested and rated them all.
