Default Windshield Suggestions?

New to the forum and HD. Many bikes in the past but finally got the one I really wanted...2012 Electra Glide Ultra Classic.

I'm looking for some windshield suggestions. At 6'2" with the stock seat, I'm looking right thru the top edge of the stock 12". I've also got the black 6" which looks great but is just too low for highway cruising.

I'd like something I can look over, but that still offers good wind protection and less wind noise. I'm thinking maybe the 10" HD Wind Splitter or 8.5" Klock Werks Flare. Any out there my height that have experience with these...or others I should look at?

Thx.....

Your dealer should have ones you can demo. There are lots of great aftermarket options as well, but the HD's are free to try out before you drop any cash on one. I think you have the right idea height wise though.

I was in the same situation a few months ago. After a couple cheap ones on eBay I wound up with a LRS 10" Ultra in dark tint. I can see over it and still got protection.

Check out Freedomshields.net. You may be able to go with a shorter windshield and still get the protection you are looking for. I know they will take the windshield back if you don't like it.

Some of us cut down our own- starting with a stock windscreen.

The bottom ( hidden) edge is easily cut with a rotozip, dremel, jigsaw.
takes minutes & the cut doesn;t have to be pretty.
If you have more than one it is easy to lay the 2nd over top to mark your cut line
you can cut the keyholes wider to make quick swaps easier

I swap seats around, and swap windscreens to match my seated height ( 6'2" I use Ultra, streetglide and solo seats on my EG classic
so i have -2", -3" and -3.5"

I like the top edge to appear to intersect the road about 40' ahead of the bike- that usually gets the wind to hit where my hairline used to be...grit and bug parts sail through what's left of my hair.

The lexan that harley uses is strong and optically good, I think superior to some of the other products used...I had a HD take at apple sized roack at 65 mph and there is just a small mark on the lexan- my face is intact.

perfect take off windshields are about $35

I don't like tints or recurves, as that can impede my ability to duck into the fairing in crap weather and look through the windscreen

Thx for all the suggestions guys...much appreciated!

I will do some searching. Also just found out that my local dealership is actually hosting a windshield/seat demo workshop this weekend. May have to go check it out.

Research and you will find a good price, but I agree, go by the STEALERSHIP n try some..I have 4 different shields that I paid the price of what most rip you off for the price of one and its all the guy makes for a living and the quality is as good if not better and he stands behind his product..Just me though, I surely would not pay $100 bucks for a name....
