Looking for better sound from my 2005 RK Classic
I just bought a 2005 RK Classic. The Harley dealer says it'll be about $900 to get Screamin Eagle slip-ons and re-map the FI. My riding buddies all tell me that's outrageous (but none of them have fuel injected bikes, either). I just want to get better sound w/o voiding my warranty. I'll fork over the 9 bills if necessary, but I'd hate to find out later I could've done it cheaper...any advice is appreciated!

hey Ed I thought I would let you know what I have done, and approx cost....I have an05 RK. I installed the Screamin Eagle II slip ons myself, if you can turn a wrench I would do it myself, and with the extra money buy a stage one kit (Screamin Eagle high air flow kit(air filter)). Then have the bike re-mapped. If you are going to put exhaust on and re-map the system, you may as well intall the air filter kit. More air in the more air out, would change the sound as well as adding horsepower. Installing these items was fairly easy, and I am no mechanic.. hope this helps..oh buy the way, the sound is great (low and deep but no where near as loud as straight pipes)
Slip ons with tips were approx 340.00
The air kit was approx 140.00
Re-mapping 140.00 so approx. 650 + Uncle Sam's part

I'm away from the house until the end of the month, so I don't have any of my numbers in front of me...
That prices seems off the page to me. I have an 05 FLHTI...same motor, obviously, that you have. I put the V&H intake with SEII slips at the time of purchase and had the remap done as well. I'm pretty sure I paid pretty close to $600 (a little less though not sure) to have all of it done, and that included labor.
$900 sounds like a good old fashioned rip off to me. If you need me to, I can get the wife to look it up next time I talk to her on the phone.

I put a set of Wild Pig Pipes on my FLHRS and like them. $200 shipped to your door or $150 blems on Ebay. Great slip on's for the money. If you put them on yourself as well as the air kit, you'd just have to pay for the remap. You'd end up at around $500.

With my 00 Ultra I had SE slip on's, wasnt happy not enough noise, put Samson's on, too much noise. Tried Wild Pig's they discolored and weren't all that great on noise IMHO. Last set-up was Hookers, they looked good and made a respectable amount of noise. On my 05 I had the dealer install Vance and Hines Pro Pipe 2-1, Ness Big Sucker, Race Pak Tuner Kit about $1200. So far I am happy with the look and sound. Good Luck

I don't know Pilot. I put on V&H Slashcuts, $649 Canadian, SE air cleaner kit $282 Canadian and EFI map card $213 canadian Total $1144 Canadian. About $935 US, and I shopped.

You might be right...as I said, I'm away from home...and there were a lot of numbers rolled up into that purchase...I got mine through military sales, so I was comparing all sorts of stuff. In the mean time, I still have about 2 weeks before I get home. ebasswell, if you still need me to, I can call the wife and have her look it up for you...

The SE air cleaner kit and remap is about $282 + change. That is the price right out of the 2005 catalog. The SE pipes, if I remember correctly, are less than 400.00. You can install the air cleaner and the pipes yourself if you have a few tools, and a little mechanical appitude. $900.00 for what you are looking at is over the top even with labor.
