Perhaps everyone is right... I might have to wait for a real road king.
One last question though.... what is the difference between a SG and a RK gas tank?

First off, removing the outer and inner fairing does not remove the wires up front and I don't know where or how you would hid or move them. Second, what are you going to use for guages? egnition? Switch panel? Headlight? Turn signals?
This is the strangest question...makes me wonder....
Buy a RK and be done with it.

Well, you asked removing the fairing, not removing and replacing with a RK front end components...still I see no advantage. For 5,000.00 I would trade for a king. It's not like after this change you can just pop the fairing back on for a trip. Anything can be done with enough money, but again why?
If I hated the fairing on my ultra I'd trade for a king or heritage or something....just doesn't seem logical, unless a full custome is what you're after.

But to each their own, I didn't buy it or making the payments, do as you see fit.

this is why I am asking... After hearing the opinions, I am in agreement now. Will look for a RK when I get the funds.

What year is your Street Glide? Would you be interested in a trade? I have a 2000 RK with 30000 miles, 1550 big boar kit, 17" apes with all magnum steel braided cables and lines, SG lowered shocks, custom led rear lights. I want to do the opposite you want to do, I was thinking about adding a fairing but figured I should just buy a bike with a fairing on it!
