Default RE: short antennas

Well, I installed them (easy) and ran them a couple of days now...the signal seems OK, but I put an SWR meter on the CB antenna and I can;t get the wave ratio below 3:1....tried everything I know how, but that stays at 3:1 or higher????

Where did you connect the SWR? From the back of the head unit or somewhere at the antenna?

Using the meter, I plugged in right at the radio antenna connection.

The SWR meter should be connected between the radio and the wire running to the antenna because you are actually tuning the wire too.

Has anyone trimmed their CB antenna and had it work well?

Sounds like the FM antenna can easily be trimmed but I'd like to keep them near the same length.

i went to Auto Zone and bought 2 $4.99 rubber looking antennas. Now no problem getting in the garage and a cool look. I took off my big antennas and will use them on road trips.

Bro....do NOT use that CB with that 5 dollar antenna!!!!

CB antennas are WAY different froom regular AM/FM ones....you will burn up that CB most ricky tick if you use it with anything other than an antenna designed for CB!!!

For the stereo antenna....just cut it....I took 10" off mine...much better and no reception issues. As others have said...just make sure you take the excess of the bottom so the little ball on the end is in the portion you put back on the bike.

Default RE: short antennas

I cut mine down to 31 inches (same length as both antennas on my vehicles) and AM/AM/Weatherband still works as well as with previous length of roughly 47". This may have adverse effects on CB performance but I do not use CB functionality. I'm still looking to find a 'good' short rubber 'stubby' replacement but at the new cut length I'm not poking my eye out walking around the bike in the garage nor am I having to get gas pump hoses to clear the original antenna height (I like to fill from the same side as the bike stand as it is leaning in that direction).
